More glasses!

Amie had another eye appointment on Monday and they decided her prescription needed fine tuning which is great because it means we have a spare pair for accidents!

Unfortunately Amie decided she wanted a red pair and I had no idea how many problems this would cause! The shops were not only lacking in red pairs but they were lacking in red pairs small enough for her face! In fact we struggled to get any colour small enough for her!

3 hours (ish) later we found a fab red pair which she loved and they looked gorgeous on her! They are very trendy and she looks gorgeous!

We have to wait till the end of the week for them so will post some pics when we have them!

Homework!

I’ve taken a welcome break from my homework to have a drink and rest my eyes!

It’s been a long time since I was at college and had to write essays, especially on such exciting topics as COSHH, Maual Handling, Risk Assessment, Health and Safety in First Aid, Storage of Medication and plenty more on the topic of health and safety! Great eh?

I can think of better things to do with my evenings and weekends (even housework!) but then I remind myself it’s all in a good cause and will be over in 2 years! It seems a long time now but I’m sure in 21 months times I’ll be wishing I had more time to finish it in!

Anyway, back to the grindstone, I will keep you updated with how I’m going and what’s next on the agenda…

Another course!

I attended another course today! My certificates folder will be rather full soon!

This one was all about meeting the needs of the younger children in the new Early Years Foundation Stage. To those of you not in the business, this will probably mean absolutely nothing but to simplify (so not to bore you!), as a childcare practitioner I need to work towards the new scheme EYFS for all children I look after from birth to 5 years.

By looking at the massive folder we have, it all seems like a lot of burocracy and more about paperwork than keeping the children happy and safe. However, from the course today it all seems a lot simpler than we first thought and I have come home with so many positive thoughts and lots of new ideas of things we can do with the children!

Phew!

Well it would seem that Bethany’s persistence to use the potty was short lived, she hasn’t sat on it for a week so I have escaped potty training!

She has the idea though, she knows what it’s for and knows what treat she’ll get when she’s ready!

Another day, another eye test!

Today was Bethany’s turn for an eye test at the hospital!
We’re becoming part of the furniture!

They didn’t find anything wrong with her eyes (much to her dissapointment) but asked for her to go back again in 6 months just for another check. This was around the age we discovered Amie’s turn so it makes sense to get her checked out again.

So in the meantime she will have to continue pretending she has her own glasses!

A proud day!

Amie had her pre school boosters today and after a night of hardly any sleep for me worrying how to tell her she was having injections this morning, she took it all in her stride and didn’t even flinch when she had the injections and didn’t even cry!

I was so proud of her she got a new disney princess Belle and a promise of a big girls scooter if she carries on being good at swimming too!

As for Bethany, despite my objections to her using the potty, she has sat on it and used it twice! I wont be pushing her to potty train though because I don’t have the time or the energy at the moment!

Well done girls!

Food Hygiene

I attended a food hygiene course today. It’s very important to my job but a total waste of a saturday!

However, my whole house will be sterile by the end of the weekend!

First day back at school!

Tonight I attended my induction for the NVQ3 course I am taking and I am beginning to wonder what I’m letting myself in for!

There is going to be an awful lot of work and not much time for anything else by the sounds of it so I’ll see you all on the other side in 2 years time when I’ve come out of hibernation!

A meal out

Stephanie and Dave were staying with Mum this weekend as they were visiting from the Midlands. We went for a meal with them and also to celebrate James’ birthday.

We went to the Feathers for a traditional Sunday Carvery and despite the service being a little slow, we had a fantastic meal and it was lovely to see Steph and Dave again.

Back to School!

Ok, not quite school as I am a bit past that but I did venture back into college this week!

For some mad reason I have decided to do an NVQ3 in childcare, learning and development!
I attended an interview this week and have been accepted onto the course which starts on Thursday.

I am looking forward to it from the respect that it will give me lots of options for the future, however I’m not quite sure how I will fit in all the work, assignment writing and portfolio building.

Watch this space, I will keep you updated…
